History is not only the past. We must keep movin’….
History — her story, his story, our story — is essential to the present and vital to the future. History is a tool. The more we know our history, the better we are able to move forward in creative and enriching ways for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
San Antonio honors Black history — all the time.
LOOK: Get your copy of the February 2005 Black History Month calendar in the San Antonio Current on Thursday, January 27 and in African-American Reflections on Wednesday, February 2. Or visit the calendar online at www.bh.thecarver.org
LISTEN: KSTX, 89.1 FM will air “TPR Remembers,” daily commentaries honoring African American contributions, accomplishments, and culture — presented by community leaders from all over San Antonio throughout the month of February
LEARN: Take the whole family to as many events, activities, exhibits, performances, and programs as you can! During February your city will offer you countless opportunities to indulge your love for music, visual art, theater, spoken and written word, movement, and creative life as expressed by Americans of African descent.
This year Black History Month especially honors the Niagara Movement (1905-1910), a group of black intellectuals led by W.E.B. Du Bois, which called for abolition of racial discrimination, full civil liberties, and recognition of human brotherhood.
